Subaru made few changes to the 2023 model because it is the fifth year of the model cycle. Here's the full rundown

The 2023 Forester is available in six trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Wilderness, Limited, and Touring.

EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is standard across the board. The award-winning active safety system's latest version, which debuted last year, has improved overall performance thanks to a wider field of view and updated software. On models with Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Keep Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Automatic Emergency Steering is standard. The safety feature, in conjunction with EyeSight and Blind-Spot Detection, aids in steering control to help avoid a collision at speeds less than 50 mph.

All Forester models, like previous model years, come standard with seven airbags: driver and front passenger frontal airbags, side curtain airbags, side pelvis/torso airbags, and a driver's knee airbag.

The 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER® engine in all Forester models is paired with a Lineartronic® CVT and Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The direct-injection engine generates 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. The Forester is a fuel-efficient SUV, with an EPA-estimated highway fuel economy of up to 33 mpg. The compact SUV also has a towing capacity of up to 1,500 pounds (3,000 pounds for Wilderness) and Trailer Stability Assist as standard.

The Subaru Forester is still one of the manufacturer's most prestigious vehicles. This year, Forester received two Kelley Blue Book awards in its segment: the 2022 Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Award and the 2022 Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own Award. The compact SUV also took first place in its category in U.S. News & World Report's 2022 Best Cars for Teens.

The Subaru Forester has been named a TOP SAFETY PICK+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for 2022. Forester has received an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK for the 16th consecutive year (2007-2022), more than any other small SUV.

The 2023 Forester is now available

The 2023 Forester (Base) maintains the model's tradition of providing exceptional safety, durability, and capability at an affordable price. The compact SUV is priced at $26,395 and includes a long list of standard features such as power windows, door locks, and side mirrors; dual USB-A input/charge ports in the front center console; multi-function display; remote keyless entry; and a combination meter with color LCD.

The SUBARU STARLINK® 6.5-inch Multimedia Plus system with high-resolution touchscreen, smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay®, Android AutoTM, and Bluetooth® hands-free phone and audio streaming connectivity is also standard, as is SiriusXM® and TravelLink® (4-month free Platinum Plan subscription); and a CD player.

Optional features include 17-inch silver aluminum alloy wheels and a ladder-style roof rail design with convenient tie-down points. The rail system has a dynamic load capacity of 176 pounds and a static load limit of 700 pounds, allowing for the safe use of a roof-top tent. The MSRP for the option package is $625.

Premium Forester

The 2023 Forester Premium, starting at $29,395, is a significant upgrade over the Base in terms of comfort, convenience, and available technology. The All-Weather Package comes standard with heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, and windshield wiper de-icer. The Premium also includes a 10-way power driver's seat with power lumbar support, 17-inch black machine-finish aluminum alloy wheels, ladder-type roof rails, dark tint privacy glass, a panoramic power moonroof, and Keyless Access with Push-Button Start.

The Forester Premium trim includes standard X-MODE® with Hill Descent Control for improved off-road performance. The interior of the Premium trim is enhanced with a leather-wrapped steering wheel with silver stitching, black center dash panel trim with silver metallic finish, and chrome inner door handles.

Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert; Automatic Emergency Steering; dual USB-A charge ports in the rear center console; and a Power Rear Gate with automatic close and height memory are available as options on the Premium. The package has an MSRP of $1,165.

Sport Forester

With a starting price of $30,965, the 2023 Forester Sport offers distinct exterior and interior elements for a youthful and sporty appearance, as well as enhanced standard equipment over the Premium, such as Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Automatic Emergency Steering, and dual USB-A charge ports in the rear center console.

The Sport trim's exterior features exclusive gloss black trim, black-finish 18-inch wheels, and a black rear roof spoiler. Orange accents can be found on the side and front lower valances, as well as the roof rail mounts. On the rear of the vehicle, an orange SPORT badge adds a striking yet complementary contrast. The Sport interior has a distinct dark gray color scheme with orange stitching and accents throughout.

Furthermore, the Sport trim includes a dual-function X-MODE for greater capability in a wider range of conditions.

The single option package for the Sport trim, which has an MSRP of $1,645, includes Reverse Automatic Braking, SUBARU STARLINK 8.0-inch Multimedia Plus system, Harman Kardon® premium speaker system, and Power Rear Gate.

Forester Wilderness Area

Building on the extensive feature content of the Premium trim, the 2023 Forester Wilderness adds a slew of exclusive mechanical, design, and functional enhancements for increased capability on less traveled roads and trails. The rugged model, crucially, retains the Forester's renowned blend of SUV capability and car-like ride and handling. The Forester Wilderness is priced at $34,020.

The Wilderness has 9.2-inch ground clearance, which is a half-inch increase over the other Forester models, which already had among the highest in their segment. Longer coil springs and shock absorbers provide the extra road clearance, while special tuning helps the Forester maintain its exceptional ride and handling performance despite the increased height.

The Wilderness has Yokohama GEOLANDAR® all-terrain tires for better traction on muddy or gravel roads. The tires are embossed with raised white letters and mounted on exclusive 17-inch matte black alloy wheels. A standard full-size tire is stored beneath the cargo area, giving owners peace of mind while out on the trails.

The Wilderness has a unique front fascia with hexagonal front grille and hexagonal LED fog lights, as well as an anti-glare hood decal in matte-black finish, to visually communicate the more capable off-road performance. A larger wheel arch cladding and a front skid plate are also standard on the Wilderness.

Numerous interior details, such as water-resistant StarTex® seating surfaces, all-weather mats, and a cargo tray, make the Wilderness ideal for transporting outdoor gear in wet or muddy conditions. The Wilderness also has ladder-style roof rails that can support up to 800 lbs. when parked, a 100-pound capacity increase that allows for larger roof tents.

The 2023 Forester Limited, priced at $33,075, includes all of the Premium's features and is distinguished visually by 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels in black with machine finish; exterior mirrors in matching body color with integrated turn signals; and dark gray accent trim for the fog lights.

Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert are standard on the Limited. STARLINK 8-inch Multimedia Plus; perforated leather-trimmed upholstery; silver metallic with gloss black finish center dash panel trim; leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift lever handle; dual-zone automatic climate control with voice-activated controls; dual USB-A charge ports in the rear center console; and a power rear gate with auto close and height memory are among the upgraded features. Automatic Emergency Steering and a 1-Touch Folding Rear Seatback are standard on the Limited.

The Limited comes with a single option package that includes Reverse Automatic Braking, STARLINK 8-inch Multimedia with TomTom® Navigation, a Harman Kardon premium speaker system, and a Heated Steering Wheel. This package has an MSRP of $1,695.

Touring Forester

The 2023 Forester Touring, which continues to be the top of the model line, is priced at $36,495. The Touring has the same standard and optional features as the Limited, but it also has the innovative DriverFocus® Distraction Mitigation System, which includes gesture control capability, allowing the driver to raise and lower the set temperature of the automatic climate control system with hand gestures.

The Touring's exterior features 18-inch dark gray alloy wheels with a machine finish, satin chrome exterior folding mirrors with integrated turn signals, and LED fog lights with chrome trim. This flagship trim level has silver roof rails that match the silver finish on the front, rear, and side valances, as well as the chrome exterior badges.

Exclusive Black or Saddle Brown perforated leather trimmed upholstery; 10-way power driver's seat with 2-position memory (includes power lumbar support); 8-way power front passenger seat; and heated outboard rear seats are available in the Forester Touring cabin.
