The 2019 Subaru Outback retains several signature mechanical features from the previous year, including the classic BOXER powertrain. This crossover SUV is available with the updated STARLINK Multimedia platform, which includes navigation, WiFi and smartphone integration. The 2019 and 2018 Outback models also offer the EyeSight Driver Assist technology that's optimized for defensive driving.
Capabilities
Producing up to 175 horsepower, the 2.5 L BOXER engine block is installed in the 2019 and 2018 Outback. Both models offer the 3.6 L BOXER engine that whips out just more than 255 hp. Regardless of the powertrain configuration, these Subaru crossover SUVs support a maximum towing load of 2,700 pounds. Multi-generational success justifies the installation of the Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission in the latest Outback trims. A manual mode with six gear speeds is included in this dynamic CVT. You'll also love the Hill Holder feature when parking on a steep road. Similarly, the Incline Start Assist reduces the likelihood of rolling on a hill. Both Outback models are driven by the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, which is smoothly synced with the X-MODE. You'll also get a boost from the Torque Vectoring Control for making sharp turns.

Technology
An 8.0-inch LCD monitor with multi-touch-gesture technology is available in the 2019 and 2018 Outback. The GPS navigation software in the STARLINK Multimedia system is synced with the Travel Link and Traffic services on SiriusXM. This trademark infotainment hub delivers lots of great entertainment options, such as iHeartRadio and Pandora Internet Radio. You can also stream Aha music via a compatible smartphone. Speaking of mobile connectivity, both Subaru models offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Bluetooth and Near Field Communication (NFC) provide additional wireless integration. The 2019 Outback comes with a WiFi hotspot that operates on the latest 4G LTE standards. Dual USB ports and an auxiliary audio jack are some traditional hardware features that support universal connections with mobile gadgets. These Subaru crossover SUVs also offer 12 speakers by Harman Kardon and an amplifier with the GreenEdge label. These premium speakers produce crisp acoustics from HD Radio and SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

Safety
Subaru decided to make the EyeSight Driver Assist technology standard in the 2019 Outback. In the previous year, this signature safety package was optional in some of the trims. When you're in danger of hitting another car that suddenly decelerates ahead, the Pre-Collision Braking will attempt to prevent an accident. The Adaptive Cruise Control also lowers the risk of a crash in stop-and-go traffic. The Lane Keep Assist interferes with the steering system when there's an elevated risk of a side collision. Before this technology comes on, you might get some notifications from the Sway Warning and Lane Departure Warning. Both Outback models offer the Reverse Automatic Braking and a rear vision camera that records high-resolution videos.
